Cancer warning signs often mimic common health issues
Medical experts are warning that many early symptoms of various cancers are easily overlooked because they mimic common, less serious health issues.
For pancreatic cancer, warning signs include persistent upper abdominal pain that radiates to the back, unexplained weight loss, jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes), and sudden onset of diabetes. Changes in digestion, such as nausea or fatty stools, may also occur.
Regarding colorectal cancer, experts highlight that changes in bowel habits—such as persistent diarrhea, constipation, or the sensation of incomplete evacuation—should not be ignored. Blood in the stool, whether bright red or dark, is a critical symptom that requires medical investigation.
Other general warning signs mentioned include persistent coughing, non-healing sores, swollen lymph nodes, and changes in stool color or consistency, such as black, tarry stools which may indicate gastrointestinal bleeding. While these symptoms can be caused by benign conditions like infections or digestive upsets, medical professionals advise seeking consultation if such changes are new, persistent, or unexplained.
