EarOne to exclude AI-generated music from Italian radio charts
EarOne, the organization responsible for monitoring radio airplay in Italy, has announced a new policy to exclude AI-generated music from official airplay charts. Starting September 22, 2026, any tracks that are primarily or entirely created using generative artificial intelligence—including AI-generated melodies, lyrics, or mixing—will no longer be counted in the rankings.
The initiative aims to preserve the authenticity of musical productions and ensure that charts reflect the success of human artists rather than algorithms. Under the ‘EarOne AIrplay Policy 1.0’, radio stations and producers will be required to accurately report the origin of their content to maintain data transparency. While the decision has received support from those looking to protect artistic identity, it has also sparked debate regarding how to regulate hybrid productions where AI is used as a tool without being the dominant creative force.
