Aksa Carbon signs UN Global Compact amid Earth Overshoot Day warnings
Earth Overshoot Day falls on July 30, marking the point each year when humanity's demand for natural resources exceeds what the planet can regenerate in a year. The date highlights accelerating climate risks such as heatwaves, floods, droughts, forest fires, migration and disease, and notes that geopolitical tensions, including the Russia‑Ukraine conflict, have drawn attention away from environmental action.
Turkish carbon‑fiber producer Aksa Carbon, the first of its kind in Turkey, has joined the United Nations Global Compact. The company said the move integrates the UN’s universal principles on human rights, labor standards, the environment and anti‑corruption into its operations. General Manager Gürcan Koman emphasized that sustainability is central to the firm’s long‑term growth strategy and cited the 2025 Sustainability Report as a roadmap for low‑carbon production, circularity and domestic capacity building.
