September 21 is celebrated annually by fans as ‘Earth, Wind & Fire Day’ due to the opening lyrics of the band’s 1978 hit song, ‘September’. The track, which reached number eight on the Billboard Hot 100, continues to see significant engagement on platforms like TikTok, seeing a 31% increase in streams during the week of September 21.

While the song’s lyrics famously reference the date, the choice was also inspired by the expected birth date of Kahbran, the son of the band’s late vocalist Maurice White. In Chicago, Mayor Brandon Johnson officially designated the day as ‘Earth, Wind & Fire Day’ following years of unofficial local commemorations.
