EarthCam releases commemorative films marking 25 years of Ground Zero

EarthCam has released two commemorative films to mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. The project utilizes a massive visual archive to document the evolution of Ground Zero and Lower Manhattan.

The time-lapse film traces the transformation of the site from the immediate aftermath of the attacks through the construction of modern landmarks, including One World Trade Center and 4 World Trade Center. This archive, which includes over 14.7 million images, began when founder and CEO Brian Cury installed a camera overlooking the site shortly after the attacks to support rescue and recovery efforts.

In addition to the time-lapse, EarthCam is premiering a short documentary titled ‘We Never Left,’ which features Brian Cury’s personal account of the company’s decision to continue documenting the site for decades. Individual accounts from the day also highlight the personal experiences of those near the World Trade Center, such as stock trader Christopher Gangemi, who captured the unfolding events using a disposable camera.
