Qinghai province hit by 5.3-magnitude earthquake following Tibet quake
A 5.3-magnitude earthquake struck Zadoi County in China's Qinghai province on Saturday, occurring near the epicenter of a devastating 7.0-magnitude earthquake that hit the Tibet Autonomous Region on Thursday. The latest tremor, recorded at a depth of 10 kilometers, has not yet resulted in reported casualties or new damage.
The initial 7.0-magnitude quake in Baqen County left at least 16 people dead and 76 injured. Since that event, the region has experienced hundreds of aftershocks, including several measuring between 4.0 and 4.9 magnitude. Authorities have evacuated 12,489 residents to 35 temporary resettlement sites.
Relief operations are ongoing under challenging conditions at high altitudes. China has deployed satellites and drones to assist with emergency communications and imaging. Rescue teams have dispatched over 52,000 items of relief supplies, including tents and cold-weather necessities, to support displaced residents facing extreme temperatures and potential snowfalls.
