Earthquake strikes Mangan District in Sikkim

A magnitude 3.9 earthquake struck the Mangan district of Sikkim, India, in the early hours of Tuesday morning. According to the National Centre for Seismology, the tremor occurred at a depth of 7 km at 1:48 AM Indian Standard Time.

The seismic event follows severe flash flooding in neighboring Nepal. Data from Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority indicates the flood death toll has risen to 903. The disaster has left approximately 4,247 people missing, while 10,451 individuals have been rescued. Significant casualties and missing persons have been reported across several districts, including Chitwan, Nawalparasi, and Nuwakot.
