Earthquake strikes off the coast of Aomori Prefecture

A magnitude 4.7 earthquake occurred off the eastern coast of Aomori Prefecture on September 6, 2026, at approximately 2:15 PM. The epicenter was located at a depth of about 30 km.

Seismic intensity of 2 was recorded in several locations, including Hachinohe, Taira, and Nobeyoshi in Aomori Prefecture, as well as Morioka and Ninohe in Iwate Prefecture. Lower intensity tremors were felt across parts of Aomori, Iwate, Hokkaido, Miyagi, and Akita prefectures. There is no threat of a tsunami resulting from this earthquake.
