Earthquake strikes southwest of Bayah, Banten

A tectonic earthquake occurred southwest of Bayah, Banten, on Wednesday morning, September 30, 2026, at 08:33:16 WIB. The earthquake, with a magnitude reported between 4.4 and 4.6, originated at a depth of 26 kilometers.

The epicenter was located at coordinates 7.28 South Latitude and 106.14 East Longitude, approximately 40 kilometers southwest of Bayah. The Indonesian Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) identified the event as a shallow earthquake triggered by active underwater fault activity, potentially related to the East Bayah Fault.

Tremors were felt across several areas in Banten and West Java. Intensities reached III MMI in Ciracap, Bayah, Jampang Kulon, and Cisolok, where vibrations were strong enough to be felt indoors. Other areas, including Kabandungan, Palabuhan Ratu, Surade, Cibadak, and Waluran, reported intensities of II to III MMI. As of the latest reports, there have been no indications of building damage or casualties, and no aftershocks have been recorded.
