Earthquakes cause mass casualties in Colombia and Venezuela
Severe seismic activity has caused widespread devastation across South America and parts of Europe. In Colombia, a magnitude 7.4 earthquake has resulted in hundreds of deaths and thousands of displaced persons, with Unicef raising alarms regarding the impact on children in the Chocó region.
Venezuela is facing a humanitarian crisis following a double earthquake in La Guaira that caused over 6,000 deaths and massive destruction. Experts note that the region remains seismically active, with ongoing adjustments to the tectonic plates expected to cause continued tremors.
In Spain, the province of Granada is experiencing a swarm of earthquakes, including a recent 3.3 magnitude tremor following a larger 4.8 magnitude event. These tremors have caused minor injuries, led to hundreds of evacuations, and forced the temporary closure of the Alhambra.
