Earthquakes hit Nashik, India, and Kumamoto, Japan

A 4.3 magnitude earthquake struck the Nashik district of Maharashtra, India, on Saturday night at 10:59 PM. According to the National Center for Seismology, the quake originated at a depth of 5 kilometers. While the tremors caused minor panic and prompted residents to leave their homes, no loss of life or property damage has been reported.

In a separate seismic event, a 3.7 magnitude earthquake was recorded in Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh, earlier that afternoon. This follows a series of smaller tremors in Nashik on August 6.

Meanwhile, in Japan, the death toll from the powerful 7.1 magnitude earthquake that struck Kumamoto Prefecture on July 28 has risen to 39. Officials stated that 36 deaths were directly caused by the quake, while one death was attributed to heatstroke related to the disaster. Over 6,500 people remain in evacuation centers, and more than 200 people have been affected in total.
