Earthquakes recorded in Chile and Argentina
Two separate seismic events were recorded in South America. In Chile, a magnitude 4.6 earthquake occurred on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at 10:42 local time. The epicenter was located 67 km southwest of Mina Collahuasi in the Antofagasta Region, at a depth of 109 kilometers, according to the National Seismological Center.
In Argentina, a magnitude 5.1 earthquake was recorded on Wednesday morning at 07:06. The epicenter was situated 68 km east of Antofagasta de la Sierra, Catamarca, at a shallow depth of 6 kilometers. The tremor was felt across Tucumán, Salta, and Catamarca, with intensities reaching IV on the Modified Mercalli Scale in Cafayate and Antofagasta de la Sierra.
