EASD 2026 in Milan showcases diabetes research and new medical technologies
The European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) 2026 congress in Milan is featuring a mix of high-level scientific research and public outreach initiatives. Beyond the formal congress halls, various “off-congress” events are bringing diabetes research into public spaces, museums, and squares. These initiatives include free glucose screenings, information stands, and interactive citizen science workshops designed to help the public understand biological mechanisms and new therapeutic progress.
In the technological sector, companies such as SiBionics and PharmaSens are presenting advancements in automated insulin delivery. A key focus is the development of the “niia signature,” an investigational wearable patch being jointly developed by the two companies. This device aims to integrate continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), insulin delivery, and an automated glucose control algorithm into a single unit to reduce the burden of managing multiple devices. Research presented at the congress also explores multimodal sensing, including continuous ketone monitoring and the integration of digital health tools to improve metabolic control and healthcare accessibility.
