East African Community ministers meet to bolster regional employment
The East African Community (EAC) Council of Ministers has convened in Mombasa, Kenya, to discuss measures for strengthening the regional bloc’s employment sector and institutional capacity.
Led by Tanzania, the discussions focus on ensuring the EAC possesses the skilled and qualified personnel necessary to fulfill its responsibilities. A primary objective of the meeting is to address a plan to fill over 164 vacant positions across various EAC institutions, with 88 of these identified as priority posts. This initiative aims to enhance the efficiency of the EAC Secretariat and its ability to implement regional programmes.
Tanzania’s delegation includes Deputy Minister for Finance Eng. Mshamu Ali Munde and Deputy Minister Regina Ndege Qwaray. The ministerial meeting follows preliminary discussions held by Permanent Secretaries on August 18 and 19, 2026.
