East Anglia THREE wind farm completes major foundation installation
Masdar and ScottishPower Renewables have reached a major construction milestone at the £4 billion East Anglia THREE offshore wind farm. All 95 foundations, known as monopiles, have been installed off the Suffolk coast. These monopiles, weighing between 1,200 and 1,800 tonnes and standing up to 84 metres tall, represent the largest to be installed from a jack-up vessel in Europe.
The project has also completed the installation of 95 transition pieces. With turbine installation currently underway, the wind farm is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2026. Once complete, the facility will deliver 1.4GW of clean energy to the UK, supporting national energy security and meeting rising electricity demand.
The development involves significant investment in the domestic supply chain and is expected to support thousands of jobs during the construction phase.
