East Attica offers archaeological and coastal tourism

The eastern coastline of Attica, stretching from Sesi to Porto Rafti, offers a combination of natural beauty, beaches, and significant archaeological sites. Visitors to the region can engage in activities such as swimming, hiking, and cultural exploration.

One notable destination is the archaeological site of Brauron, home to the Sanctuary of Artemis Brauronia. The site's prominence dates back to 700 BC, reaching its peak in the second half of the 5th century BC. The existing temple was constructed in the late 5th century BC using local porolithon. The area also features a local museum and an adjacent wetland.

Another recommended excursion focuses on Marathon, starting from the Archaeological Museum at Vranas. This site protects a Middle Bronze Age (2000-1600 BC) tumulus cemetery and the 5th-century BC Battle of Marathon tumulus. The museum's permanent exhibition covers history from the prehistoric era through the Roman period.
