East Bengal FC reaches Durand Cup final after penalty shootout win

East Bengal FC has advanced to the final of the 135th Durand Cup after defeating SC Delhi 5-3 in a penalty shootout. The semi-final match at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan ended in a goalless draw after regulation time.

Goalkeeper Prabhsukhan Singh Gill played a pivotal role, saving penalties from both Rodriguinho and Juan Sebastian Peña. East Bengal was flawless from the spot during the shootout, with captain Mohammed Rashid scoring the decisive fifth penalty to secure the win.

East Bengal will now compete for a record-equalling 17th title in the final at Salt Lake Stadium. They will face the winner of the second semi-final between Mohun Bagan Super Giant and defending champions NorthEast United FC.

In addition to the tournament progress, the Durand Football Tournament Society is highlighting emerging talent by recognizing eleven ‘Emerging Players’ with awards of Rs 1 lakh each to encourage young footballers on the national stage.
