East Carolina edges UTSA 1-0 in American Conference opener
East Carolina University secured a 1-0 victory over UTSA in their American Conference opener at Bill Clark Homes Field at Johnson Stadium. Alyssa Tucker scored the decisive goal in the 24th or 25th minute after driving down the left side of the field and placing the shot in the net. Isabella Gutiérrez provided the assist on the play.
Despite UTSA controlling possession and leading in shots, the Pirates' defense and goalkeeper Olivia Dietrich held the Roadrunners at bay. Dietrich recorded six saves, including a critical stop in the opening minutes and helping to defend against a late equalizer attempt by Lilli Denhardt in the 64th minute.
With this win, East Carolina improves to 2-2-6 overall and 1-0-1 in conference play, while UTSA falls to 4-2-3 overall and 0-1-0 in the American Conference.
