East Coast Rail Link targets December 2026 opening
The East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) is on track for a potential opening as early as December 2026, following successful train testing and commissioning results. Dato’ Sri Darwis Abdul Razak, CEO of Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL), stated that while the project is progressing well, the official opening date remains subject to final government approval and announcements.
Recent testing via the Comprehensive Inspection Train (CIT) recorded a travel time of 88 minutes between KotaSAS and Gombak, meeting the target goal of approximately 90 minutes.
In preparation for operations, ECRL Operation Sdn. Bhd. (EOSB) is offering 65 commercial spaces, such as kiosks and pushcarts, to local entrepreneurs along the rail line. These spaces are intended for food and beverage services, retail, and passenger necessities. Additionally, EOSB has identified 35 facility management packages valued at RM12.70 million for 2027, covering services such as cleaning, landscaping, and building maintenance.
