East Coast Railway hits 100 MT freight unloading milestone

East Coast Railway (ECoR) has become the first railway zone in India to surpass 100 million tonnes (MT) of freight unloading in the 2026-27 financial year. The zone reached this milestone 17 days faster than it did during the same period in the previous financial year.

Key performance indicators show a 9.8 per cent increase in freight release tonnage compared to the 2025-26 period. This growth is attributed to improved wagon handling and faster release of freight rakes, specifically BOXN wagons, which saw a 7.3 per cent increase, and BOBRN wagons, which rose by 9.8 per cent.

Additionally, ECoR reported a 3.9 per cent increase in freight loading and a 3.2 per cent rise in freight earnings. The railway zone stated that these improvements reflect enhanced operational efficiency, better turnaround times, and more effective utilization of infrastructure and rolling stock to support industrial logistics.
