East Flanders promotes inclusive employment for workers with disabilities

Minister Rob Beenders, representing Persons with Disabilities and Equal Opportunities, visited the Puyenbroeck domain in Wachtebeke to highlight inclusive employment practices. The visit focused on supporting staff members with disabilities and observing how local governments can foster diverse workplaces.

East Flanders Province has been working toward an inclusive workforce since 2011. The federal government is currently reviewing legislation to lower barriers for people with disabilities entering the labor market. Minister Beenders noted that current systems can discourage employment due to the fear of losing benefits during health setbacks. Consequently, work is being done on a federal reform to make benefits fairer and more inclusive, ensuring that working remains financially viable and less risky for those with disabilities.
