East Jakarta Court upholds indictment against Roy Suryo

The East Jakarta District Court has ruled that a pre-trial decision cannot invalidate the indictment against Roy Suryo regarding alleged defamation and libel concerning the educational credentials of Indonesia's 7th President, Joko Widodo.

Presiding Judge Christina Endarwati stated that the legal challenges raised by Roy Suryo's defense team lacked the legal basis to dismiss the prosecutor's indictment. The court clarified that while a previous pre-trial ruling found certain enforcement actions—such as searches, arrests, and detentions—to be invalid, this does not automatically render the entire investigation file or the prosecutor's authority to bring charges void under the Criminal Procedure Code.
