East Jakarta faces high crime rates amid calls for stricter enforcement

Crime rates remain a significant concern in East Jakarta, involving incidents such as street brawls, robberies, and vehicle theft. Ahmad Sahroni, Vice Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), has called for stricter law enforcement to create a deterrent effect, urging the police to act decisively against criminals to prevent recurring offenses.

Recent criminal reports in the region include a case where a junior high school student was allegedly assaulted after using artificial intelligence to create vulgar images of female classmates. Additionally, authorities are investigating an alleged case of child sexual abuse in the Pasar Rebo area and reported armed robberies in Pulogadung.

In a separate matter involving influencer Julia Prastini, known as Jule, the Metro Jaya Regional Police confirmed she will undergo drug rehabilitation rather than detention, as investigations found she was a user of etomidate via e-cigarettes rather than a member of a distribution network.
