East Java DPRD urges BUMD reform and permanent drought solutions
The East Java Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) has issued two major calls for action to the provincial government regarding regional management and crisis response.
Regarding fiscal efficiency, DPRD Vice Chairman Blegur Prijanggono urged the provincial government to evaluate and potentially dissolve unproductive Regional-Owned Enterprises (BUMD). He noted that some entities continue to drain the regional budget without contributing to local original income (PAD). This push for reform aligns with national efforts to streamline state-owned enterprises.
Separately, DPRD member Eddy Paripurna has called for permanent solutions to the water crisis affecting 19 regencies and cities in East Java. With drought emergency statuses already declared, Paripurna criticized the current reactive approach of relying on water tank distribution. He emphasized the need for long-term infrastructure to combat the impacts of El Nino, particularly in chronic areas like Pasuruan Regency.
