East Java officials push teacher welfare and child‑friendly programmes

In Kedungkandang, Malang, DPRD member Puguh Wiji Pamungkas highlighted teachers’ demand for higher welfare and stronger support for private schools during a constituency meeting. He urged the provincial government to boost the Biaya Penunjang Operasional Penyelenggaraan Pendidikan (BPOPP) program and improve resources for private secondary schools, noting that more than 60 % of students continue education in the private sector.

Meanwhile, the Surabaya municipal government received commendation from the national Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection and the Ministry of Education for its child‑friendly ecosystem. Over 5 000 children attended the city’s two‑day National Child Day celebration, which featured festivals, workshops, and dialogues with the mayor and ministries. Minister Arifatul Choiri Fauzi praised Surabaya’s seven‑year streak as a “Main City” for child welfare and said the city is close to earning the highest child‑friendly designation.
