East Java Police Uncover Gold Scam, Plan Seized Asset Auction

The East Java Police cyber unit exposed an online gold‑selling fraud that operated from inside prisons. Four inmates and a woman were arrested, with temporary losses reported at roughly IDR 3.7 billion. The scheme lured victims via WhatsApp messages, offering gold at prices far below market value.

Separately, the East Java High Prosecutor announced a public auction of 275 seized items valued at about IDR 40.7 billion. The assets, collected from corruption and other criminal cases, include two buses, vehicles, electronics, and precious metals. The auction will run from 10‑14 August 2026 at the evidence warehouse in Mojokerto, aiming to increase transparency and recover state assets.
