East Java rice production projected to reach 10.2 million tons by 2026

East Java's rice production is projected to reach 10.2 million tons of dry milled grain (GKG) by November 2026, representing a 2.54 percent increase compared to the previous period. Heru Suseno, Head of the East Java Agriculture and Food Security Office, attributed this growth to improved access to superior seeds, fertilizer, irrigation, and agricultural machinery.

In the Magetan Regency, local authorities have set a specific production target of 387,544 tons of GKG for 2026. To achieve this, the government aims to expand planting areas to 73,000 hectares through agricultural index improvements and the IMAS program. Magetan Regent Nanik Endang Rusminiarti emphasized that agricultural mechanization is essential to combat challenges such as climate change and a shrinking young labor force.

Additionally, corn production in East Java is expected to rise by approximately 0.67 percent, increasing from 4.2 million tons in 2025 to 4.276 million tons in 2026, despite a decrease in total planting area, signaling higher productivity per hectare.
