East Jerusalem residential building demolished in Al-Tur

Israeli authorities demolished a five-story residential building containing ten apartments in the Al-Tur neighborhood of East Jerusalem. The demolition followed years of legal battles by residents, heavy financial fines, and a final eviction notice issued just one day prior to the operation.

The Jerusalem Governorate warned that such actions represent a dangerous escalation in policies of forced displacement and home demolitions aimed at altering the city's demographic and urban reality. Officials stated that licensing and planning justifications do not provide legal cover for these actions, especially as Palestinians are systematically denied building permits.

According to reports from the Jerusalem Governorate, 427 demolition and bulldozing operations have been carried out in the Jerusalem governorate since the beginning of 2026 through September. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has also documented an increase in these operations, noting that obtaining building permits for Palestinians is nearly impossible and warning that forced evictions raise serious concerns under international humanitarian law.
