East Kootenay launches recruitment for paid on-call firefighters

The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) has launched a fall recruitment drive for paid on-call firefighters. The initiative targets residents in the Columbia Valley, Elk Valley, and South Country to bolster local fire department capacity.

Recruits are needed for departments in Jaffray, Baynes Lake, Elko, Hosmer, Fairmont Hot Springs, Windermere, Edgewater, and Panorama. The RDEK provides necessary training, equipment, and support, noting that no previous firefighting experience is required. Paid on-call firefighters receive compensation for training and emergency call-outs and may be eligible for extended benefits.
