East Kootenay releases draft rural transfer station optimization plan

The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) has released a draft Rural Transfer Station Optimization Plan for public review. The plan aims to establish new service levels for rural sites in the Central and Columbia Valley Subregions as the region prepares for the conclusion of the yellow bin recycling program at the end of December 2027.

This optimization plan focuses on maximizing waste diversion and maintaining public access to services. It is a two-stage process; the current stage establishes service levels, while a future implementation phase will determine specific operating hours and days. The public comment period for the draft plan is open until September 20.
