East Lansing awaits prosecutor decision on controversial arrest video

Authorities in East Lansing, Michigan, are awaiting a decision from the Ingham County Prosecutor regarding potential charges following a controversial arrest. A video circulating online shows an officer striking a restrained Black woman multiple times during an incident outside a local establishment.

The city has stated that the circulating footage does not depict the entire encounter and that the involved officer has been placed on paid leave. While the East Lansing City Council has expressed support for releasing more body camera footage, officials indicate that the release is pending a review by the county prosecutor. Ingham County Prosecutor John Dewane noted that his office has not yet completed its review of the evidence and estimated a decision could take several weeks.
