Kelowna International Airport to receive $22.4M federal investment
The Kelowna International Airport (YLW) is set to receive a $22.4 million federal investment through the Build Communities Strong Fund. This funding is part of the YLW Economic Enabling Infrastructure Project, which aims to install essential utility infrastructure, including water, sanitary sewer, stormwater, electrical, and communications systems.
The project is designed to unlock 165 acres of airside land for development, specifically targeting the aerospace, aviation, logistics, and advanced manufacturing sectors. The first phase of construction will service approximately 90 acres of development-ready land.
The total cost of the infrastructure project is estimated at $58.8 million. While the federal government is providing $22.4 million, the City of Kelowna will cover the remaining $36.4 million through the Municipal Finance Authority (MFA). According to Mayor Tom Dyas, this financing will be repaid via airport fees and will not impact local taxation.
