East Palo Alto multi-vehicle crash leaves two dead

Two people died and three others were injured following a multi-vehicle collision in East Palo Alto on Tuesday morning. The crash occurred around 8:20 a.m. near the intersection of Bay Road and University Avenue.

According to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, an adult male driving a minivan struck six other vehicles, including a SamTrans Ride Plus van. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene due to serious injuries. A female passenger in the minivan was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, where she later died.

Three additional individuals sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The intersection was closed for several hours while the Major Accident Investigation Team conducted its inquiry, reopening around 12:30 p.m. Authorities are asking anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.
