East Potomac Park faces redevelopment by Donald Trump

President Donald Trump intends to transform the East Potomac Golf Links into a world-class golf venue as part of a broader redevelopment vision for Washington, D.C. The historic park, established by a congressional act in 1897 for the “recreation and the pleasure of the people,” has served the public since the golf course opened in 1919.

Local residents have expressed concerns that converting the site into an upscale facility will result in higher fees and a reduction of accessible public space. Critics argue the move threatens the character of a venue that has historically provided affordable recreation for a diverse range of Washingtonians.

The proposed changes come alongside other major projects in the capital, including a $400 million White House ballroom and the planned construction of a triumphal arch. Additionally, debris from the demolished East Wing of the White House was previously deposited at East Potomac, creating a large mound near one of the courses.
