East Sooke Regional Park trail reopens after cougar activity
A section of the Coast Trail in East Sooke Regional Park – Aylard Farm has reopened following a period of closure. The area, located between the south end of the Aylard Farm fields and the petroglyphs, had been closed since September 29.
The reopening follows consultations with the BC Conservation Officer Service regarding an increase in cougar activity in the region.
The Capital Regional District (CRD) has issued safety reminders to all park visitors, urging them to remain alert for signs of wildlife such as tracks, scat, or claw marks. The CRD advises visitors to keep pets on leashes at all times, avoid approaching or feeding wildlife, and ensure all food and garbage are properly secured to minimize the risk of encounters with large carnivores.
