East Texas faces potential widespread rain on Halloween

East Texas is currently experiencing a significant dry spell, with Lufkin recording nearly 15 inches below normal rainfall. This period may become the driest September/October on record, leaving Lake Sam Rayburn at less than 62% capacity and 11.2 feet below its flood pool.

Weather models indicate that the dry conditions are expected to persist through next Wednesday. However, multiple computer simulations suggest a high probability of widespread rain occurring on or around October 31. While rainfall estimates vary—with the GFS model predicting a quarter-inch and the US(AI) model forecasting over an inch—the anticipated rain could provide much-needed relief to the region despite potential disruptions to Halloween activities.
