East Turkistan Government-in-Exile urges Trump to confront Xi over Xinjiang policies

The East Turkistan Government-in-Exile (ETGE) has called on US President Donald Trump to confront Chinese President Xi Jinping regarding alleged human rights violations against Uyghurs and other Turkic communities. This plea comes ahead of President Xi’s scheduled state visit to the United States from September 23-25.

The ETGE urged the Trump administration to ensure that bilateral agreements involving trade, artificial intelligence, and critical minerals do not undermine accountability for what the group describes as an “ongoing genocide” in the region officially known as Xinjiang. The organization emphasized that East Turkistan is strategically vital to China, containing significant portions of its petroleum, natural gas, and coal resources, as well as serving as a gateway for the Belt and Road Initiative.

Furthermore, the ETGE highlighted the region's military and technological importance, citing the presence of intercontinental ballistic-missile silos near Qumul, the Lop Nur nuclear testing site, and expanding large-scale computing and AI infrastructure. The group requested that the US seek the release of detained East Turkistanis and support the people’s rights to self-determination and independence.
