East-West Seed Foundation opens learning farm at University of Ghana
The East-West Seed Knowledge Transfer Foundation has officially opened a new learning farm at the University of Ghana in Accra. The facility is designed to provide students and local farmers with hands-on experience, allowing them to apply classroom agricultural theories to real-world crop management and production.
According to Foundation Country Director Jemima Djah, the farm serves as a site for internships and practical training. While the organization typically operates in the middle belt of the country, this Accra-based facility increases accessibility for partners and stakeholders located in the capital.
The initiative is part of a larger four-year project funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. This program aims to train smallholder vegetable farmers across five regions—Bono, Bono East, Ahafo, Ashanti, and Upper East—to transition from subsistence farming to treating vegetable production as a profitable business enterprise. Training modules include crop selection, land preparation, pest management, and business planning to help farmers understand potential returns on investment.
