EastEnders character Ash Panesar to return via recast

The BBC soap opera EastEnders is bringing back the character Ash Panesar after a nearly four-year absence. The role will be recast with actress Sakira Vel taking over from Gurlaine Kaur Garcha.

Ash was last seen in Walford when she moved to Canada for work, a decision that caused significant friction with her mother, Suki Panesar-Unwin. Since her departure, Ash has had limited contact with her family, though she recently became engaged.

Executive Producer Ben Wadey stated that the character's unexpected return is expected to create new challenges for the Panesar family due to unresolved tensions. Sakira Vel expressed that taking on the role is a ‘real honour’ and noted her excitement to join the ‘Panesar family chaos’.
