Eastern Army Commander visits Manipur to assess security situation

Lt Gen VMB Krishnan, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Command, visited Spear Corps and Assam Rifles formations in Manipur to assess the ongoing security situation. The visit included discussions with senior officers regarding strategies to address the ethnic clashes that have persisted in the state for over three years.

Recent violence in the hill districts of Kangpokpi and Tamenglong has resulted in deaths and arson, including the burning of houses in Naga villages following retaliatory killings. Security forces, including the Assam Rifles, are working to seize weapons, apprehend militants, and engage with Naga and Kuki-Zo community leaders to encourage neutrality and end the conflict.

During his visit, Lt Gen Krishnan interacted with troops, commending their professionalism, high morale, and operational readiness amidst the volatile environment.
