France weather: heat persists in east as cooling expected mid-week
France is experiencing a period of intense heat, though weather patterns are beginning to shift. While western regions like Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Brittany have seen temperatures start to decrease, eastern France continues to face high temperatures exceeding 35 °C. Forecasters note that the eastern regions are more resistant to cooling due to a more continental climate and less wind.
Météo-France has begun lifting heatwave alerts in several western departments, but high temperatures are expected to persist in the south-east and the Côte d’Azur through the beginning of the week. A significant change is anticipated mid-week, as an Atlantic disturbance is expected to bring cooler air, rain, and potential thunderstorms to much of the country, particularly in the south, by Thursday or Friday.
In regions like Maine-et-Loire, temperatures are expected to remain around 30 to 32 °C until Tuesday before a noticeable drop occurs. The arrival of oceanic air is expected to eventually bring temperatures closer to seasonal norms by the end of the week.
