Eastern Libya and Niger sign strategic cooperation protocol
Saddam Haftar, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Eastern Libyan forces, and Nigerien Prime Minister Ali Maamaamou Zeine signed a strategic cooperation protocol in Benghazi on Sunday. The signing ceremony was attended by Osama Hammad, head of the Libyan government appointed by the House of Representatives, along with a high-level delegation of military and political leaders from Niger.
The agreement aims to strengthen bilateral relations and expand areas of joint cooperation. While the official statement emphasized the importance of continued consultation and coordination to implement the protocol, specific details regarding the sectors covered by the agreement were not disclosed.
This development follows previous diplomatic engagements between Niger and Libya. In June, the Nigerien Prime Minister visited Tripoli to meet with Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, head of the internationally recognized Government of National Unity, to discuss economic partnerships, border security, and combating organized crime and irregular migration. During that period, the Ministry of Defense of the Government of National Unity also signed a military cooperation memorandum with Niger.
