Eastern Libya executes 10 individuals over terrorism convictions

Authorities in eastern Libya have executed 10 individuals by firing squad following convictions for terrorism-related offenses and assassinations. The Military Prosecutor’s Office, operating under the General Command led by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, announced that the sentences were final judgments issued by the Supreme Military Court after several years of judicial proceedings.

The convictions involved membership in prohibited terrorist organizations and participation in the assassination of both military personnel and civilians. While the official statement did not specify the exact location or timing of the executions, local media reports indicated the proceedings took place at the Qarnada military prison in Shahat, with bodies being released to families via a hospital in Benghazi.

The executions occur amid Libya’s ongoing political and security fragmentation, with the eastern-based Libyan National Army maintaining separate military and security institutions from those in Tripoli. The prosecutor's office stated the implementation of these sentences was intended to “achieve justice and deter” those involved in terrorist activities.
