Eastern Mediterranean University defends blocking VYK Chairman's email

The administration of Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) has issued a statement addressing a management crisis involving the Foundation Managers Board (VYK) Chairman, Şemi Bora. The controversy arose after the university's rectorate blocked a mass email intended for staff by the VYK Chairman, which reportedly contained serious allegations regarding ongoing administrative processes.

The rectorate clarified that while individuals are not prevented from sharing views with the press, the university’s official communication system is not a platform for personal statements. They argued that using institutional email for such messages could lead to them being misconstrued as official university positions, potentially harming institutional neutrality and workplace harmony.

This development follows reports that the university's communication blockade also affected emails sent by the DAÜ-SEN union. The rectorate has confirmed the suspension of certain email transmissions, maintaining that the decision is necessary to protect the university's impartial stance during an unresolved administrative period.
