Eastern Mediterranean University expert warns desk workers on posture
Assistant Professor Özde Depreli of the Eastern Mediterranean University Faculty of Health Sciences has issued guidance regarding the importance of working posture for desk-based employees. Depreli notes that increased computer and phone usage has extended the amount of time spent sitting, which can lead to muscle fatigue and discomfort in the lower back, neck, back, and shoulders.
To mitigate these risks, Depreli recommends that employees evaluate their ergonomic conditions and daily movement habits. Key advice includes setting up a workspace that supports the back and allows feet to rest flat on the floor. She also suggests that those using laptops should consider using separate keyboards and mice to better adjust screen positioning.
Depreli emphasizes that good posture does not mean sitting perfectly upright without moving all day. Instead, she advises making short movement breaks a part of the daily routine, suggesting that individuals stand up or change positions approximately every half hour to avoid the strain caused by remaining in the same position for extended periods.
