Eastern Mediterranean University faces administrative crisis

A political and administrative crisis is unfolding at Eastern Mediterranean University (DAÜ) following a government proposal to remove the Board of Trustees (VYK) Chairman, Şemi Bora. The Academic Personnel Union (DAÜ-SEN) had raised concerns that the move was intended to facilitate new employment requests and the disposal of university real estate assets ahead of elections.

Minister of Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu has denied these allegations, stating that the government has no requests for new vacancies or employment at the university. He noted that no new hiring has occurred at DAÜ for three years and emphasized that the government's stance on protecting university properties and the Beach Club remains unchanged.

Simultaneously, Şemi Bora has alleged that the university rectorate blocked his attempts to send a mass informational email to staff. Bora intended to use the message to explain the background of the current administrative deadlock and the process leading to the removal proposal. The DAÜ-SEN union is monitoring the situation and has indicated they may take action if communication blockages persist.
