Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation demands security boost after communal violence

The Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) has called for increased administrative and police presence following communal violence in Kiusam Circle, Pungro, and Shamator. Following a peace mission to the affected areas on October 11 and 12, the ENPO held consultative meetings with the Yimkhiung Tribal Council and the Tikhir Tribal Council, urging both communities to exercise restraint to prevent further escalation.

The ENPO alleged “serious lapses” in governance and law enforcement, suggesting that timely intervention could have prevented the conflict. To address these issues, the organization presented a three-point demand to the state government: the immediate posting of an Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC) at Kiusam, the establishment of a police outpost with sufficient manpower, and urgent relief and rehabilitation for families displaced by the violence.

While acknowledging the efforts of local tribal councils and district administrations in containing the situation, the ENPO emphasized the need to address manpower shortages and facility deficits in the local administration.
