Eastern Province Traffic Safety Committee launches ninth Ideal Driver Award

The Eastern Province Traffic Safety Committee held a press conference in Dhahran to announce the ninth edition of the Ideal Driver Award. Abdullah Al-Rajhi, Secretary-General of the committee and Secretary of the award, noted that total participation across the previous eight editions has exceeded 250,000, representing a 700% increase since the inaugural version.

The award has expanded its categories to include individuals, heavy transport, government and private entities, school and university transport, and a recently added category for motorcycle delivery companies. The ninth edition will also continue its category for drivers with previous violations to encourage behavioral change and improved compliance with traffic laws.

Al-Rajhi reported significant improvements in regional road safety metrics. Compared to 2012, the mortality rate per 100,000 people has decreased by 75%, serious injuries have dropped by 85%, and severe traffic accidents have declined by 69% as of 2025.
