Indian Railways has announced a series of special train services to accommodate the surge in passenger demand during the upcoming festive season, including Durga Puja, Dussehra, Diwali, and Chhath Puja.
Eastern Railway has notified 29 festival special trains, totaling 299 trips in each direction. Key routes include services from Howrah to Lumding, Raxaul, Patna, and New Delhi, as well as services from Sealdah to Patna, Sitamarhi, and Gorakhpur. Additional services from Kolkata will connect to New Jalpaiguri, Madhubani, and Amritsar.
The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is also operating additional services to strengthen connectivity across West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Telangana, and the Northeast. These include Secunderabad-Naharlagun, Santragachi-Naharlagun, Howrah-Lumding, and Kolkata-New Jalpaiguri specials.
Furthermore, special trains will make 102 trips to connect major destinations such as Mumbai, Chennai, Latur, Kolhapur, and Kalaburagi. A notable weekly service will run between Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and Chennai between mid-October and mid-November. These measures aim to reduce overcrowding and assist passengers in securing confirmed tickets during the peak travel period.
