Eastern Switzerland expands higher education in AI, health, and medicine

Educational institutions in Eastern Switzerland are expanding their academic offerings to address growing professional demands. The Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences (OST) has launched four new degree programs. These include Bachelor of Science programs in Industrial Artificial Intelligence, focusing on the intersection of technology and business, and Health Technology Innovation, designed to bridge the gap between healthcare and digital technology. Additionally, OST will introduce a Master of Science in Management and Law in 2027, alongside a new program in physiotherapy.

In a separate development, the cantons of St. Gallen and Zurich have signed a letter of intent to secure long-term medical education in the region. The agreement ensures that the Medical Master program at the St. Gallen location will continue beyond 2030, managed by the University of Zurich as the ‘UZH Medical Campus Eastern Switzerland’. The initiative aims to increase medical student capacity from 40 to 100 places, strengthening the healthcare workforce and supply for both the Zurich area and Eastern Switzerland.
